I can’t be very specific with just one favorite. I have many! I try to make the best of what I am feeling that day when I am working out. I love to run especially with beautiful surroundings like the woods or by the water. Taking in the salty air mixed with the smell of the warm tar and honeysuckles is by far my favorite but so is doing a hot yoga class to amazing music where I’m completely soaked in sweat

Music you are digging right now:

Layup, Lord Huron, Nathaniel Rateliff & The Night Sweats, Kings of Leon, and Mumford and Sons

Favorite yoga pose or workout and why:

My favorite yoga pose changes from Forearm Stand and Child’s Pose daily - sometimes I crave the freedom and delicacy of forearm stand, while other days I just need to hang out in child’s pose in order to get grounded and release tension throughout my body.

Best advice for new students?

Stick with it and enjoy the journey! They call it a yoga practice for a reason. I think that yoga still has this stigma around it that it’s an easy thing, when it fact, it is quite possibly one of the only times in your life when you are challenging yourself mentally, emotionally, and physically, all at the same time. You have the ability to really break yourself open to face who you are, and who you want to become. It’s actually a pretty awesome opportunity if you think about it that way.

Guilty pleasure?

Ice cream, one of the great loves of my life.

Song that most wakes you up in the morning?

“Dog Days Are Over” by Florence + The Machine (it also makes a better mid-afternoon pick-me-up than a cup of coffee)

What to expect from Shelby's Class

  • Work Out: A full body workout to help you strengthen your muscles, stretch and release tension in your fascia, and increase mobility throughout your joints.

    1. Work In: Who we are on the mat, is who we are off the mat. How do you want your yoga practice to help you on your journey?

    2. All The Feels: Whether its inspiration, fun, grace, peace, energy (the list goes on), Shelby hopes to bring feeling and intention to each and every class (and some pretty cool playlists)

Erin Gallagher

“Whether or not it is clear to you, no doubt the universe is unfolding as it should”.

Most inspiring person in time:

My Grandma. She had children, finished school, had a career, a social life, is the most quintessential grandmother (knitting, baking), still completely independent, is non-judgemental of others, has more energy than anyone I know, and not matter what… she still gets dinner served hot on time, always. She’s my real-life inspiration for being able to find balance and do it all.

Music you are digging right now:

The Revivalists,  Alabama Shakes, and NF.

Favorite yoga pose or workout and why:

The “knee to nose/same side elbow/opposite side elbow” - it’s challenging yet every skill level can accomplish the series, plus you can take it one step further and fly (my favorite).

Song the most wakes you up in the morning?

The Lumineers - Sleep On The Floor. It reminds me to get up and follow my dreams, to take a chance and live... not just be alive.

Best advice for new students?

We all start as beginners, don’t be intimidated.  Approach your class with an open mind and know that you are more capable than you’ve ever believed.

What to expect from Erin’s Class

Emily de Labry

Where did you grow up:

Winston-Salem, NC

Song that most wakes you up in the morning?

Here Comes The Sun by The Beatles - It reminds me that it’s another day and there’s no reason not to be happy.

Favorite yoga pose or workout and why:

This changes between wheel pose and legs up the wall. I love wheel pose because it’s challenging and I hate it most of the time, but it pushes me to keep trying. And then I love legs up the wall to calm down and release stress.

What’s your spirit animal?

A chipmunk - I’m playful, positive, and always have snacks on me.

Best advice for new students?

Just show up to your mat. It doesn’t matter whether your practice is at home or in a studio; whether your practice is 10 minutes or 1 hour; or whether your practice is a power vinyasa flow or full meditation - just show up for yourself.

What to expect from Emily’s Class

  1.  Welcoming: Expect a welcoming, supportive and encouraging environment.

  2.  To Flow: Expect a creative, fun flow set to a playlist that’s just as fun.

Lord Huron, The Black Keys, G Love and Special Sauce,

Krrum, Big Wild, The Heavy, and Houndmouth

Favorite Quote:

The mountains are calling and I must go -  John Muir

Favorite yoga pose:

Pigeon - I dread it and love it at the same time.

What to expect from Julie's Class

  • Fun! You're going to sweat, laugh, and flow to some groovy beats. Julie doesn't take anything too seriously so you do you and just flow to the beat of the music even if you have no idea what you are doing.

  • Core: Julie loves some solid core work so rarely will you get away without some good yogi bicycles, boat poses or just plain old crunches. After a few classes you may even start to look forward to it!

  • Save the best for last: Julie went into yoga for the physical aspect but enjoyed the stillness and silence that came with a regular practice. Long holds are saved for the end so you can really calm the nervous system and shut down your monkey mind.

Favorite Music:

Mumford and Sons – their latest album spans the emotional spectrum, I especially love flowing to it at home to candlelight.

Favorite yoga pose:

I typically say half-moon pose to this because it looks fancy but is achievable for every body. In my own practice, I love supported fish pose because it opens the heart.

Best advice for new students:

Keep showing up. You may not see yoga working its magic, but it takes time. Keep showing up, keep breathing, and know you can always find savasana early!

What to expect from Michelle’s Class

  • A balance of strength and ease

  • A light-hearted approach with good alignment

  • A personal sense of peace

Guilty Pleasure?

Guilty pleasure? Laying in the sun with a good book and a kombucha.

Best advice for new students?

Just show up to your mat. It doesn’t matter whether your practice is at home or in a studio; whether your practice is 10 minutes or 1 hour; or whether your practice is a power vinyasa flow or full meditation - just show up for yourself.

What to expect from Fiona’s Class

  1.  Cues - I am heavy on alignment cues

  2.  Breath - I’m constantly reminding students to breath ujjayi breath, it’s one of the most powerful tools we have if we can learn how to use it

  3. Options - yoga is for everyone, I always offer several different modifications in poses and encourage students to find the one that helps them deepen their practice. Sometimes this means holding back a little bit to find a balance of strength and ease.
